CFM Review - Important Points to Remember on Exam Day

IFMA has stated that its members who have earned their professional certification enjoy significantly higher compensation. In fact the advantages of achieving CFM status are many:

In today's competitive job market, your CFM status puts you ahead of the competition. Certified Facility Managers have proven their abilities and demonstrated their commitment to achieving excellence in the profession.

On average, a CFM earns 18% more than non-certified facility managers. Earning your CFM is one of the most important career decisions you can make.

The CFM program articulates the level of skill and talent required of the profession.

Your Greater Triangle Chapter supports your professional growth by offering help in your achieving your FMP and CFM status.

The IFMA Certified Facility Manager (CFM) program assesses professional expertise through work experience, education and your ability to apply the knowledge and experience you have gained in taking and passing a comprehensive exam. The certification is competency based and is gained through the following steps:

- Confirmation of Eligibility and Application to sit for the exam

- Self Assessment

- CFM Exam Review

- CFM Exam

- Maintenance of CFM Status through Continuing Education

The computerized exam consists of 180 questions delivered in random order related to the following nine competency areas:

- Operations and Maintenance

- Real Estate

- Planning and Project Management

- Leadership and Management

- Quality Assessment and Innovation

- Finance

- Human and Environmental Factors

- Communication

- Technology

To assist the candidate in preparing for the CFM exam, both IFMA National and your Greater Triangle Chapter offer exam review programs. In addition, IFMA offers the “The CFM Exam Review Course”, made up the manual and workbook/self-study guide. These are available as a set to IFMA members for only $129.99 ($199.99 non-members).

In addition to the CFM, IFMA offers the FMP recognition as a Facility Management Professional. This is a professional comprehension program that is based primarily on coursework and not experience, and is designed for the entry level facility professional.

Your chapter will offer CFM review programs to prospective candidates. These will be two hour reviews given just prior to the exam date, to prepare CFM candidates in achieving certification.   Contact the Chapter's Professional Development
