August Monthly Meeting – “FEMA”

August Monthly Meeting – “FEMA”
By Mindy Reed – Red Coats, Inc

Presented by Phil Strouse, Region IV Stakeholder Relations Liason

Before, during and after disaster who do we turn to? FEMA.

Region IV provides service to eight of the southeastern states and focuses on external affairs; the private sector is useful in building relationships and educating the public.  The private sector owns and operates 80% of the Nation’s infrastructure and key resources.  The private sector of FEMA and federal government are the force multiplier that create preparations and business continuity within the community. The core structure of FEMA’s private sector is based on communication, coordination, collaboration and connections.  Communication involves information sharing and message leveraging; while coordination is designed for pre-disaster planning and post-disaster need based resources.  FEMA collaborates with the whole community to problem solve and derive new and innovative ideas for solutions to disaster situations.  FEMA’s connections are interested stakeholders in the community offering assistance in times of need. FEMA provides free courses http://training.fema.gov/is/ and a single source site for the private sector http://www.fema.gov/private-sector-1 .
